Proposal
The idea is to create a multiple of Baby’s cribs/cots, made out of transparent fabric. A baby’s crib also being symbolic, relates directly to the term sanctuary, “a small shelter”, a child’s helplessness yearning for a place of refuge, protection and security. It is a space that has a common ground and mutual understanding to all, just as the importance of home, an attachment on both a physical and emotional level. Using a transparent fabric is to experience the importance of gentleness and fragility of those seeking refuge. We relate to fabric through many aspects of our lives, to cover, to give warmth, and to protect. It carries memories, and is involved with all our senses, to touch, to smell. The transparency is to create a notion of an open space, timelessness, and stillness.
